Next two photos are of Obie the night the vet told me we
should let him go. He'd initially gained a pound after his surgery, only to lose
it and more the next week. He wasn't pooping on his own, or at least, not much.
It seemed like a loss cause. So I brought him home, crying, to say goodbye, to
take a last set of photos of him, to remember him by.

As you can see, at 6 wks, he was tiny, very very tiny.
That night, I got on line, crying my heart out. I've never
had to put a pet down before, and it was just so unfair that I'd have to put
this baby, who hadn't even experienced life yet, down :(

This is Obie about 2 wks after his surgery. After watching him take things
from his mama to eat, watching him play, we refused to give up on him, so we
kept going, kept fighting, and he kept going.
As I told Dr McMakin, as long as he was fighting and didn't give up, we
wouldn't.
We switched him off of Science Diet as he HATED it
with a passion. He would turn his nose up at the canned food to go eat puppy
kibble with his littermates. So we took him off it, and found Natural Balance, a
high quality food that was the only thing we found that put weight on him.
Thanks to the wonderful PetCare Forum
Rottie board, I was able to get Dr McMakin in contact with a vet who had done
this surgery, and we started Obie on Cisapride.
And he kept going. . .
