We each have those special ones who steal our hearts. .they may not be a show dog, may not be even papered, but they own a huge chunk of our hearts.

The owner of that part of my heart was my blue fawn brindle greyhound, Abbey. She was a clown, always had a smirk and a tailwag, no matter how much trouble she was in, how mad I was. She was a daddy's girl, doted on Dan, adored him, slept with him. Always happy, always a twinkle in her eye. She was a gift from Beth Wallace of Greyhounds Homewards Bound in Feb 96, when Beth got so ill she couldn't take care of her, and she's been our clown since. She'd gone through 2 moves, and was our nanny dog for our first litter of borzoi. She adored those puppies, would roll over and let them gang up on her, and took pride in terrorizing them as they got older.

Abbey was taken away from me this week. .vet thinks by a spider bite :( I found a bite (swollen area) on her elbow/shoulder area, and treated it as I was told by a vet, one baby benedryl, and 'if not better by morning, come in' and went to bed thinking if it wasn't better by morning I'd take her in.

Abbey passed away that nite, Monday, in her sleep. . .as if this year hasn't been bad enough, with three losses in my family, I lost my baby girl :( My heart feels like it's broken. She may not've been that special dog, that BIS winning dog, may not've even been registered, but she was special to me. her hugs, her smiles, her way of crunching down upon herself as she ran. . .and now i'll never get to see her again :( The borzoi miss her so. . . especially Rio. .that was his buddy. .and a grown man (AKA Dan) crying is a sad thing :(

She was only 5. . .:( i don't know how I'll raise my next litter of borzoi without my nannydog :(

Love you, Sweet Abigail,

Abbey was our babysitter, the nanny dog.   She  loved the puppies since the day she saw them at a week old, and was gentle with them the entire time they were here. She let them gang up on her, climb all over her and chew on her ears.

Our future litters here at Mielikki's Hunt will not be the same without our nannydog. ..

Whenever I'd put Abbey in the bathroom when she was muddy, she'd crawl into the tub to sleep. I really miss her silly antics :(
