My foster babies!"

Here is a variety of photos of foster dogs that have graced my house and stolen my heart over the years. Thirty greyhounds have gone through my house, and many are not represented here because I forgot to get photos of them. 16 of those 30 Greys were from a seizure in Ballinger TX on 5/2/94, and the additional kiddos was through Greyhounds Homeward Bound Inc, Ft Worth TX. Hope you enjoy these photos. They are gone, but they are my kids, and I miss them. . .

Pokey was my first foster and I still regret letting him go. Pokey was found wandering the Ballinger area with another male grey. Whitey was the better off of the two, for awhile, it was touch and go for Pokey, but he finally started gaining weight. He was a VERY timid dog, scared of everyone, terrified of men. The group he was with made no progress with him and I asked to foster Pokey. .I don't know why, I just felt a connection. It took a week of chasing him down, cornering him, feeding him raw hamburger while I slipped his collar on, forcing him to walk, picking him up when he threw himself on the ground, making him walk some more, picking him back up, telling him what a GOOD boy he was, before he came around. The group was amazed at the progress I made with him. He's now adopted, but everytime I went to see him, he smiled and talked to me. I miss him, a lot.

This is Buddy, Pokey's littermate. Like Pokey, Buddy was VERY shy and skittery, and even after spending time at my house, he didn't come out of his shell. Only after months in his new home, did his true personality start to emerge, and after 3 years in his home, he is just now able to go out in public, with little fear.

This is 1X1, Storm's mother, with Storm at about 4 wks old. . .she wasn't healthy enough to have this litter.  Poor girl had had enough of them by this time, going through my screen door to get away from them.  She passed away December 93.

Sandy was one of the first three dogs I fostered for Beth Wallace of Greyhounds Homeward Bound, Inc. Sandy'd been in her care for quite a bit of time. No one wanted this friendly dog, because he was not a purebred Greyhound. Sandy is a Greyhound/GSD X, and a very loveable boy. I ended up with him for almost 8 months before the perfect home came around.

Belka was one of three sisters I fostered for Beth: Belka, Strelka, & Laika. Belka was a returnee, as her owner was too busy with a new business to take care of her. She is now living near Houston, the proud dog of an even prouder 11 year old.

Laika's story is a sad one. Laika was one of the original 3 I fostered for Beth. A lady heard about her over the internet, and we talked and talked and talked. . .she seemed real gung ho about adopting this dog, as a playmate for her two whippets. Laika had shown no aggression over my cats, so we didn't think she'd be a problem with the Italian Greyhounds that lived there either. After three months of trying to figure out how to get Laika to IN, she got there. . .and it seemed like the perfect adoption. A month later, I get an email, she'd gone through a picture glass window, the lady wouldn't crate her (said she couldn't get Laika in the crate, I had no problems), so she left her loose. In play, Laika hurt one of the IG's. I called her and talked to her and she agreed she was going to work it out, get a bigger crate, etc. Another month later, I get a call from a rescue group, Laika had been dumped on them. I don't know where Laika is now, it angered me and upset me that a lady I trusted with one of my kids did this, but I know Laika is at least and at last in a good home somewhere in IN. . .I no longer believe in long distant adoptions. . .it'd worked for us before, but this one showed what can happen.

This is Blanco Bandit Bob. :) His racing name was Blanco, the colour you see on his head is ALL the colour he had. His first foster home named him Bandit because of the patch, I named him Bob because. . .well, Bob had an accident that resulted in his tail being amputated. He now has nothing but a Bob for a tail. He now lives in Lubbock TX.

The tan boy on the left is BJ. If I'm not mistaken, he came from the Jaurez track. He and Bob were two of 11 Greyhounds shipped to us by American Airlines February of 96, from Ft Worth, for an adoption day. BJ went home with this nice couple that day, where he is now the constant companion to the Rottie X.

Drexel was another of the 11 Greyhounds. Drexel had been with Greyhounds Homeward Bound for about a year, due to a hock that had been broken, many people didn't want him. He is now the companion to a Doberman in his new home, drives her nuts by running circles around her. He's shown here with his new "cousin."

Tigger is shown here with his Mama, ML Hinkle. They decided to foster Ms Money (on the right), one of the few girls we got. Needless to say, Ms Money weaseled her way into the heart of the family, and became Tigger's best buddy. They live in San Angelo TX

Ms Hattie enjoys the life of a queen. She was adopted by a darling couple from a smaller town around San Angelo, and lives with a Pomeranian who rules the house, and a chow who was born with no eyes. They travel with their parents in the RV, and you can see who truly rules the house;)
