Mir taught me an important lesson: not to fall for novice
faults:
those faults that any newbie can pick out. These include
missing teeth, gay tail and coat & eye color. They are unable
to look behind
these faults and see the dog in its entirety. If they're
lucky, a Novice will
grow out of it.
Unfortunately, there are long time breeders who haven't
gotten
beyond that stage.
Mir is missing a number of teeth and moved narrows in the
rear, two faults
easily seen.
Sherita had been screwed by the same breeder who sold me
my
first Borzoi
and I felt bad for her. All she really seemed to want
was a
performance dog.
So, because I had
an abundance of nicer boys, no prospective
Homes lined up
(they all had wanted girls!), and couldn't keep them all,
I
sent him to Sherita. First because she wanted him as a pet,
she asked me to
send him to her on limited, but after she saw
him and
others saw him and thought he could finish, I changed
his
paperwork from limited to full registration .
And came to eat my words that he'd be hard to finish.
Hey, if you're honest with yourself, you'll admit a mistake.
Yep, I know, not everyone
can be honest with themselves, let alone the world!
Shown sparingly, he finished with three majors becoming Kyra's
second DC.
He was been a wonderful foundation dog for Sherita,
producing very nicely for her and in three outside litters.
He is also the sire
of "Borchis Glorfindel Numenesse" aka "Kolchak
XIV"
who moved to Hawaii to be the Mascot for the 1st Battalion,
27th Infantry “Wolfhounds"
Being a proud
military brat, I want to thank his breeders Terry Steele &
Billie Thibeaux for
donating "Kolchak XIV" to this post!
Do
I regret letting Mir go? Nope, he wouldn't've reached his full
potential at my house.
But he did teach me not to nitpick faults.
